High tide, low tide, the beaches of Cotentin are an asset for leisure and suitable for everyone!
Ball games, sand castles, pétanque, swimming, fishing of all kinds, relaxing, nautical activities, the regular movements of the sea provide multiple opportunities. The wind will also be there for more sensations.

The open sea is more favorable for sports such as swimming or diving. Low water leaves huge stretches of sand, giving fans vast playgrounds. Indeed, the long beaches of fine sand favor breaking waves, ideal for board sports on the various “spots” of the west coast.

Clean beaches, have the right reflexes

In order to enjoy clean beaches during your stay in Cotentin, be careful not to leave your waste on the beach but also respect the natural environment of the sites.

The beaches of Cotentin have the particularity of presenting, for the most part, long and wide expanses of sand, pebbles and dunes for some. To take full advantage of these spaces, here are some tips!

What is a clean beach?

It is a beach without waste of human origin, but where natural elements can be deposited to be clearly identified for the preservation of biodiversity, such as algae, driftwood, shells, etc. Their roles: contribute to the development of wildlife and the flora and natural appearance of the beach.

Also, these elements must be left on the beaches, unlike stranded human waste such as glass, scrap metal, nets, ropes, plastics. The latter are the subject of reasoned manual collection campaigns by the competent community in different sectors of Cotentin, the Cotentin Urban Community.

What is reasoned collection?

It aims to respect the sea line and preserve the natural environment. It also contributes to the protection of the nesting of ringed plovers, a small bird which lays its eggs on the top of the beaches or in the pebbles from April to the end of August. At the same time, its action promotes the limitation of coastal erosion.

To respect the coastline, take the right actions!

Do not collect stones, shells or driftwood,

Take your waste home or throw your waste in the bins provided for this purpose,

Do not trample on the sea line or walk at the foot of a dune

Do not throw your cigarette ends on the floor
