Inspired by “The Oval Portrait” and other extraordinary stories by Edgar Allan Poe, this piece asks: how should we interpret what we are given to see, to hear?
How to detect the true from the false, the lie from the truth? She explores in movement the strange atmosphere that emanates from the work of the master of fantasy.
The heroine, accompanied by her dreams, her doubles, her monsters, sets out on a search for identity through movement.
Three performers for the same role to explore his psyche. They evolve in a moving scenography, drawn by video and light which come to modify reality like a distorting mirror.
With Ovale, Théâtre Bascule addresses the essential question from an aesthetic, gestural and dance point of view through the fantasy genre: from what I see, what should I believe?
