Le Trident : le Tartuffe
The New Popular Theatre propels Molière to 7th heaven!
"The sky, the night, the people, the text, the celebration": this is how Jean Vilar defined the Avignon Festival. A whole program for the members of the Nouveau Théâtre Populaire.
The joyful troupe takes over the monument that is Molière, offering us a journey through three of his flagship works: Tartuffe, Dom Juan, and Psyché. Three Molières, for three directors, eighteen actors and a common scenography, led at a cracking pace.
The troupe claims a trestle art, collective and democratic, popular and entertaining, accessible and demanding, which returns to the very essence of theater to summon our imagination. A theatrical marathon, liberating and enjoyable, which stops time to become a moment of celebration to live together.
We will discover in turn a droll Tartuffe, a very energetic Dom Juan and a Psyché with the appearance of a great music hall delirium, where bodies are freed. From black and white to color, these three pieces played to perfection compose a fascinating journey of liberation, from austerity to flamboyant audacity.
Led by a great energy of the troupe, the text is respected to the line, the acting is direct. For us, the company will play each piece one evening of the week and will operate a real performance with the complete work of almost seven hours on Saturday.
During the intermissions, everything is planned: you can continue the experience with a radio set. Grand Siècle is a radio-theatrical event played in the fore-foyer of the theater.
As part of the Molière Trilogy, Grand Siècle will bring together all the actors and musicians of the troupe (as well as guests) to create an original program: interviews, round tables, words from actors, characters, historical figures, live and recorded music, live video, everything will be implemented to offer a journey around the century of Molière. Grand Siècle will also welcome spectators in a space of its own and will be broadcast throughout the theater. Grand Siècle will serve as both interludes and introductions to the three shows, all with a glass in hand...
