From next Wednesday (October 27) until Sunday October 31, the Women's Match Racing World Championship will take place in Cherbourg.
Some information on this event which will award a World Champion title!

The last event took place in 2019, and the 2020 edition was to be run in New Zealand. 2020 was postponed to 2021, but New Zealanders did not want to organize the event, so Cherbourg was requested late.

8 crews were invited by the international federation (World Sailing) to participate
The crews are made up of 5 people who will sail on a J80.

This is a Match Race event, meaning that the teams will compete 1 against 1 on a course around buoys. A round lasts approximately 15/20min. There is a winner and a loser.

Thursday and Friday will be qualifying days. If the weather permits, all the crews compete (this is called Round Robin).

There will therefore be……35 matches to select the 4 best crews. (depending on the weather a match is played in 2 or 3 matches)

Saturday and Sunday are the finals. With a quarter-final – semi-final – final operation (like a team sports championship).

On Sunday the international federation will award the title of 2021 world champion!

A Norman crew, which is training in Le Havre, will compete for victory among the Swedish, Russian, etc.
