THE OCEAN OF THE FUTURE

La Cité de la Mer takes you to the heart of the oceans. 3 floors of exhibitions, rich in multimedia devices await you. As a family, you will discover the 10,70m deep Abyssal Aquarium and 16 other thematic pools. The very large format images of sperm whales, sharks and whales will capture your attention! You will be surprised to discover the invisible world of plankton, yet essential to life on Earth. This fun, family-friendly journey reveals the many riches and promises of the ocean. So many good reasons to protect it!

THE GREAT GALLERY OF ENGINEERING AND MEN

As soon as you arrive at La Cité de la mer, you will be able to discover the machines that allowed men to explore the oceans and seabed. Nautilus, Alvin, Globule, etc. are all names of underwater exploration machines recognized for their performances and their discoveries and which are present at La Cité de la Mer. A unique collection in the world.


THE DREAMY

Embark aboard the Redoutable, the first nuclear submarine and the largest visitable submarine in the world! Put in dry dock and fitted out to become a place of discovery thanks to the 1-minute audio-guided tour, you immerse yourself in the atmosphere of submariners and discover the different spaces of a submarine. During your visit on board, you can select a fun, family-friendly version of the audio guide, or a slightly more technical speech. It’s an extraordinary experience!


TITANIC, RETURN TO CHERBOURG

Travel back in time in a unique immersive journey, discover the epic tale of the Titanic and transatlantic voyages. The settings, testimonies, films and sounds make you relive the legend from its stopover in Cherbourg on April 10, 1912 to its tragic sinking, you discover unique settings which allow you to immerse yourself in the legend of the Titanic. Until spring 2025, at the heart of the route you will be able to observe Discover also 53 artifacts presented for the first time in Europe, brought up from the debris field which surrounds the famous wreck.

The City of the Sea is also an emblematic and historic place:
Beyond the spaces offered by La Cité de la Mer, you can discover an emblematic place, steeped in history: the Cherbourg Maritime station, a monumental Art Deco building designed by the architect René Levasseur and inaugurated in 1933.

In 2022, associated with the submarine the Redoutable, the 2 symbols of our French maritime heritage were elected Favorite Monument of the French, in the famous program by Stéphane Bern.

As part of the “Titanic, return to Cherbourg” route, you will be able to discover the Baggage room (not accessible stopover days). A magnificent room that allows you to project yourself into the transatlantic epic.
