Some routes may be disrupted by works or landslides, find them below.

Hiking routes can be subject to all kinds of hazards: erosion, flooding, aging of developed structures (footbridges, bridges, etc.), falling trees, etc.

In certain cases, their resolution may require either a light intervention (maintenance by mowing, pruning, etc.), or a closure of the route while the premises are made safe or the intervention is carried out.

Where possible, a diversion is found on public sections, so as to have a secure route continuity. The display is made on both sides of the obstacle and as far as possible at the previous intersections. The information is also shared with travel advisors from the Cotentin Tourist Office, municipalities, federations (French Hiking Federation), partners, and on this internet page.

In many cases, if security and the layout of the premises allow it, the route can be maintained.

CHANGES IN PROGRESS

How's it going ?

The competent entity (Project Owner) for resolving the problem is not the same depending on the type of route (GR223 or municipal loop). Most of the time it is Cotentin or the commune.

Cotentin has community competence, voted in 2018, which concerns the development and maintenance of walking paths on labeled hiking routes (GR®223, GRP®, PR, Sentier littoral, Chemins du Mont-Saint-Michel).

On the Coastal Path, in the event of crossing private property as part of the Coastal Pedestrian Passage Easement (SPPL), State services are in discussion with the owner to find the appropriate solution. Depending on the problem encountered, it is then up to the Project Owner (often Cotentin) to carry out the necessary intervention.

When necessary, the decision is taken by the competent project owner to carry out an intervention. Authorizations may be requested to comply with town planning and environmental regulations.

The partners (communities, public actors, managers, federations) involved are integrated in such a way as to meet everyone's expectations. The intervention can then be carried out.

When there is a closure, as a security measure or to allow intervention, an order (municipal or prefectural) is issued to prohibit passage and detail the reasons and measures to follow.

The project owner can then carry out his intervention. Depending on the intervention and the layout of the premises, the duration can vary greatly (1 day for wooden planks to a few weeks for a total releveling of the path base and installation of crossing structures).

At the end of the work and after validation, the order ends and the route is permitted again.
