After its first visit last May, the ship Ambition of the Ambassador Cruise Line company will make its second scheduled stop of the year in Cherbourg-en-Cotentin on Friday, September 20. The Gare Maritime Transatlantique will be expected to welcome nearly 1 passengers, mostly British. For this start of the voyage from Newcastle with a stopover in Dundee in Scotland, Cherbourg-en-Cotentin will be the first French city to welcome cruise passengers aboard this beautiful ship with its purple and green hull.
Boat features
THEAMBITION was inaugurated on June 25, 1999 in Saint-Nazaire under the French flag (Wallis & Futuna) for Festival Croisières as MISTRAL. Two other jumbo ships will be delivered subsequently, the EUROPEAN VISION (2001) and the EUROPEAN STARS (2002), which now operate as MSC Armonia et MSC Sinfonia. When Festival went bankrupt in 2004, the liner was taken over by the Saint-Nazaire shipyards, which sold it to Iberocruceros. Renamed Grand Mistral, it then serves the Spanish-speaking market. Its rear part will be completely modified to receive new balcony cabins. Here again, it will leave Iberocruceros just before the latter's closure, transferred to Costa, for which it becomes the COSTA neoRIVERA end of 2013. In December 2019, transformed again (the nightclub will also become cabins), it becomes theAIDAmira for the German shipowner, but will only make three cruises for it before the pandemic begins. Eventually, it will be withdrawn from the fleet and sold to Ambassador Cruise Line, which will rename it AMBITION. It was first chartered for six months in Glasgow by the Scottish government to serve the floating hotel for Ukrainian refugees before resuming its cruises in May 2023. © Association Paquebots & Marine Marchande
