The Cotentin of land & marshes

Location : Utah Beach – Domaine de la Lavalle Farm

The Cotentin is a deeply rural country surrounded by the waves, where farmers cultivate both the land and the sea. Every winter, the rising water levels in the marshes almost restore its insularity to this bocage country with lush grass and tight hedges, birthplace of the Norman breed.

The treasures of the Cotentin coast

Location : Saint Vaast la Hougue Tatihou Island

Site of the Coastal Conservatory, Tatihou is the natural gateway to discover the extraordinary diversity of the Cotentin coastline which is, with that of Corsica, the most preserved of the coasts of France. From the sky, the earth or the sea, Arnaud Guérin delivers here a sensitive portrait of this sublime, fragile Cotentin coastal nature, in perpetual movement and at the heart of current climate issues... An immersion rich in meaning on the walls of the garden of discoveries...

The treasures of the maritime heritage of Cotentin

Location : Cherbourg, Le Redoutable submarine side, City of the Sea

Discovery through the eyes of Arnaud Guérin of the Landing sites of Utah Beach to the redoubt of Carteret via the Vauban towers of Tatihou or La Hougue classified as World Heritage, in an exhibition located in the heart of this formidable maritime heritage in The Cité de la Mer at the foot of the Redoutable dock with the dikes and forts of the great harbor of Cherbourg in focus…

The lighthouses and treasures of the Cotentin and Anglo-Norman archipelago

Location : Barneville Carteret, The Carteret Lighthouse

It is at the top of one of the most beautiful belvederes in Cotentin and at the foot of its lighthouse, with a view directly overlooking the "Anglo", that Arnaud Guérin invites you on a journey from lighthouse to lighthouse, from island to on the island to discover these little-known treasures.

The treasures of the Vikings in Cotentin

Location : Bricquebec Allée Matignon

In 911, the Treaty of Saint-Clair-sur-Epte marked the birth of Normandy. In its name, Normandy bears its Scandinavian origin, that of the “Northmans”, “the men of the north” and yet, today for the Norman or the traveler who stops here, nothing or almost nothing remains...
Here Arnaud Guérin makes you discover this wonderful little-known heritage revealing another Normandy.

Arnaud GUERIN

Geologist, naturalist, professional photographer, thematic travel guide and author of numerous books, Arnaud is above all a Norman great traveller.

Traveling the planet following his passion for the earth and nature, he loves above all putting his bag on the shores of his native Auge region. He sees photography and his large-format exhibitions as gateways to introducing the world to as many people as possible.

The geologist

Arnaud Guérin maintains a very special relationship with Cotentin. For the geologist that he is, the Cotentin is more than 2 billion years of Earth history, a heritage of the subsoil of the peninsula rich in three mountain ranges, volcanoes, the vestige of a great vanished ocean or even climate archives...

The great traveler

For the great traveler that he is, Cotentin is the absolute destination, the ultimate journey where it is possible to experience and see everything that takes place in the four corners of the world. For the Norman that he is, the Cotentin represents the quintessence of Normandy. The country of plenty of products from the land and sea, the country of simple, frank and essential human relations. For the photographer that he is, Cotentin is the land of light. A translucent, violent, contrasting light also capable of handling shades of gray like no other where you don't have to waste a moment to trigger.

The author

Arnaud Guérin is the author of 36 books on Cotentin, Normandy, Iceland, New Zealand, volcanoes, Mont-Saint-Michel, treks in the islands of the North Atlantic published by Glénat, du Chêne, Ouest-France, Delachaux & Niestlé , Dakota with the Conservatoire du Littoral, OREP or even Milan Jeunesse.

He regularly publishes his images in the geo magazine.
He is also the author of documentaries for television for ARTE and France 2, which he sometimes embodies as in the series “Des volcans et des Hommes” for ARTE (Les Bons Clients production).
He designs and guides nature discovery trips for specialized travel agencies.

Here the landscapes are of rare diversity and the characters are strong, rough but always welcoming, with a simple welcome that creates friendships for a lifetime.
