The Fourmi in Saint-Sauveur-le-Vicomte

Offering Scandinavian designer furniture, from the 50s and 60s, in Saint-Sauveur-le-Vicomte, isn’t that a daring bet?

I started in 2013 when I came to help my mother. The shop was oriented towards antiques and flea markets, I added a personal touch without thinking that it would be an almost immediate success.

How do you explain this unexpected meeting?

There is traffic in Saint-Sauveur-le-Vicomte, much more than I could have imagined. Word of mouth works. The clientele is loyal, rather Parisian, made up of individuals with secondary homes in the Cotentin, interior designers or cinema decorators. A good number of sales are finalized online as well. Transactions and exchanges can be done in France but also abroad.

Does this place “La Fourmi” also have a history?

The place has retained its authenticity. The building, of post-war architecture, dates from 1952. My parents ran the garage until 1999 and then made some changes to turn it into an antique store. They were passionate about history and ancient objects.

It wasn't your basic job. You didn't plan to stay in the region either?

Indeed, I worked in events in Avignon, the unexpected events of life made me come back here. From now on, I couldn't see myself living anywhere else. There reigns in the Cotentin a tranquility far from the ambient agitation and yet it is a territory in movement. This preserved side, where life is good, will in my opinion make the department more and more attractive.
