A little history…
The Cherbourg Tourist Office is around a hundred years old and was created as a tourist office in 1910.
Subsequently, it became a 2-star Tourist Office.
The restructuring of the Tourist Office in 1991 allowed it to obtain the name “Maison du Tourisme et du Haut Cotentin”. It obtained 3 stars in 1996.
In November 2009, at the initiative of the Cherbourg Urban Community, three associations: the Maison du Tourisme et du Haut Cotentin, the Cherbourg Hague Nautical Station and the Cherbourg Cruise Club merged in the form of EPIC.
The Cherbourg Cotentin Tourist Office therefore becomes a suitable, clearer and more modern tool to welcome tourists to Cherbourg and the Cotentin.
The Cherbourg-en-Cotentin Tourist Office has been classified category II since September 25, 2015.
The context today…
Since its installation, the Cotentin Urban Community has affirmed its political ambition in terms of tourism development.
This desire was translated into concrete form with the creation of the Cotentin Tourist Development SPL on January 1, 2018 in order to carry out theCotentin Tourist Office, bringing together the old structures of Tourist Offices including that of Cherbourg-en-Cotentin.
The Reception and Information Dissemination Scheme (SADI) and the “Cotentin Unique by Nature” brand.
So to optimize, homogenize and rationalize tourist information places, the Cotentin Urban Community has asked the Tourist Office to be proactive.
Since 2019, the development of Cotentin brand Unique by Nature allows you to build a strong identity and reinforce the attractiveness of the destination.
It is also available in Tourist Information Offices and makes it possible to homogenize the places.
The SADI is designed according to tourist flows, visitor expectations and the evaluation of existing reception solutions, with regard to their attendance. The aim of setting up new information systems is to reach out to tourists while aiming for a modernized, relevant, homogeneous and quality welcome, taking into account new consumption practices and habits.
The services offered
The concept of the Tourist Information Office is to create an attractive space that represents the territory and its stakeholders. Here, the stay advisors provide personalized and complementary expertise to the content of the website and social networks.
This concept translates into a layout of 5 zones:
- A reception area, counter,
- A discovery area of Cotentin, with an XXL map visible from the entrance to encourage the visitor to move around the entire area,
- A relaxation area,
- A local living space,
- A boutique space “made in Cotentin”.
Example of collaboration:
The Tourist Office team is dressed in sailor shirts from Tricoterie du Val de Saire and in the colors of the Cotentin Unique par Nature brand.
