GR®223 – Biville – Sciotot

LA HAGUE

Description

The first part of this 22 km stage takes place high above the sea, above the Biville dunes. (You can leave the GR to reach the sea and follow it along the coastal easement). The sea recedes to give way to this magnificent dune massif, 500 meters wide and more than 10 km long. Classified as a natural area of ecological, fauna and flora interest, this protected area is home to 183 listed plant and animal species.
Please respect this fragile natural environment: do not camp and do not light fires.
The path returns to the seaside upon arriving at Siouville-Hague, a surfing town par excellence. Take the opportunity to try this activity at the Cotentin Surf Club.
The GR then goes up through the port of Dielette before turning left to bypass the Flamanville nuclear power plant, built on the site of the old iron mine. In Flamanville, take the time to stroll through the castle's communal park, accessible free of charge all year round.
In the distance stands Cape Flamanville. From the top of the cliffs which rise to 89 m above the sea, the view of the large beach of Sciotot is incredible. You pass alongside the buildings of a former semaphore of the national navy dating from 1867. Now restored, it houses a restaurant and a stopover lodge very popular with hikers. The arrival is below, on the fine sand beach of Sciotot. A must-see place to admire surfers gliding over the waves and the sun setting over the sea.
