GR®223 – Fontenay-sur-Mer – Saint-Vaast-la-Hougue

FONTENAY-SUR-MER

Description

Before your day of hiking, why not play a round of golf? A 9-hole course by the sea with a breathtaking view of the bay of Saint-Vaast-la-Hougue and a 9-hole course in the Normandy countryside await you at the Cotentin peninsula golf course. On 50 hectares between dunes and marshes, this golf course offers you a real challenge but also a beautiful stroll in a preserved natural environment.
This 19 km stage takes you along the coast and along the beach for several kilometers. A magnificent view of the Saint-Marcouf archipelago and the Vauban towers awaits you until your point of arrival. The route passes through Quinéville, a charming village with a varied heritage: the Notre Dame church and its two bell towers, the large chimney, the Quinéville castle, the World War II Museum, and for those with a sweet tooth: the Quinéville biscuit factory.
To reach the coastal path, you have to go around the port of Sinope, cross the bridge and thus find the track which runs along the sea to the Redoute de Morsalines. Then we leave the coastline for a few kilometers to cross the town of Morsalines then the Rivage. Take rue du Buissonnet and you are back on the coastal path with the La Hougue peninsula emerging before our eyes.
End of this day of walking with your arrival in Saint-Vaast-la-Hougue. A beautiful evening awaits you to taste oysters farmed in the bay while admiring the dance of the fishing boats returning to port. Take advantage of your visit to stroll through the town and visit the Vauban tower of Saint-Vaast-la-Hougue, listed as a UNESCO world heritage site, like its twin in Tatihou. Take the time for an excursion to Tatihou Island, this 20 hectare ornithological paradise accessible by amphibious boat.
