GR®223 – Nez des Voidries – Biville

LA HAGUE

Description

At the start of this 16 km stage, you enjoy an exceptional view of the Jobourg nose, an unmissable site in the English Channel with its cliffs among the highest in continental Europe. On a clear day, the Channel Islands of Alderney, Sark, Jersey and Guernsey can be seen in the distance.
The path then continues in a roller coaster along this broken coast of the Hague that looks like Ireland. Take a break in Herqueville, at the panorama of the 13 winds. From here we discover one of the most beautiful views of the Channel with the wild and preserved coast on one side and the immense Anse de Vauville and its dunes stretching as far as the eye can see.
A short stop is essential at Vauville, with its castle and botanical garden and its priory and church from the 12-15th century. A little further down, observe the Vauville pond. This freshwater marsh is protected from the sea by a narrow dune barrier of only around fifty meters. The Vauville reserve is home to more than 2300 species; access is free but specific regulations must be respected. At the exit of the village, go up the path which climbs the hill and continue on the GR above the dunes and the sea. (It is possible to continue along the large beach following the coastal easement).
The breathtaking finish of the stage is a few kilometers further, in the very fragile dunes of Biville, whose height can sometimes reach 100 m. The perfect place to watch the sun set over the sea and illuminate the dunes as far as the eye can see with its last rays: a magical moment!
Please respect this fragile natural environment: do not camp and do not light fires.
