GR®223 – Omonville-la-Rogue – Nez des Voidries
Description
This 18 km stage takes you on the customs officers' path where you will discover numerous buildings that were once used to monitor the coasts. Enjoy a coffee on the picturesque port of Omonville-la-Rogue before heading west on the pebbles. Please note: be careful when walking, plovers regularly make their nests in the sea line. You then hike between sea and fields, crossing several low walls. Enjoy a break at the old semaphore at Pointe de Jardeheu. Now rehabilitated as a gîte, this site offers a grandiose view of the sea and the broken coasts of La Hague. Here you can watch stunning sunsets.
The coastal path runs along the rocky coves to the edges of the Anse Saint-Martin beach, ending at the Plainvic harbour. Continue along the coast until you reach the D45, after a few steps. Turn right on the trail to reach Port Racine. This anchorage port is renowned as the smallest port in France. With its 800 m² and its 11 m opening between the two piers, Port Racine is a picturesque site that does not lack charm.
Continue along the coastal path, going down to the right, along the fort and past Roche Gélétan. After several low walls to cross, you reach the semaphore, then the blockhouse. Once again, you walk on the pebbles until you reach the port of Goury. It is renowned for its SNSM station and its numerous rescues at sea. Here, you can observe the La Hague lighthouse built to signal the Raz Blanchard, one of the most powerful sea currents in Europe. Contemplate these wild and untamed landscapes reminiscent of Ireland. From the port of Goury, head left between the low walls to the hamlet “La Roche”. Pass the washhouse then follow the path which winds up to Écalgrain Bay. Once again, spectacular panoramas stand before you! You overlook the cliffs with an overall view of the sea and the cliffs.
At the D401, turn right on the path to avoid the road, cross the car park below and cross the small bridge over the stream. Climb up following the path to the right and cross the Vaux stream. You pass the superb Cul Rond cove and then climb up to the old Nez de Voidries semaphore. End of stage! You deserve a break, with a view of course!
