This week is castle life 😉

The Ravalet castle was built in the 16th century by Lord Jean II de Ravalet, it is time to come and take a little stroll around the castle but also the remarkable garden where there are games for children!

A little history…

After a few changes of owners, the castle was restored at the end of the 2th century by René de Tocqueville, who also created the park in the style of the time, decorated with XNUMX ponds (one of which serves as a mirror for the castle) and a rotunda greenhouse: one of the most spectacular of this century preserved in Lower Normandy, an incredible little corner of paradise! In addition, the park and the castle are today classified as historical monuments, a small source of pride for our territory.

The castle was acquired in 1935 by the City of Cherbourg. The park retains its original structure, but will be enlarged and enriched with plantations of various origins: North America, China, Middle East, Australia, Europe.

Attention ! The Ravalet castle has had a very tragic history... The story of Marguerite and Julien, children of Jean III de Ravalet.

Once upon a time, there were a brother and a sister who were madly in love with each other. From there, this very passionate relationship forced their parents to separate them. Marguerite is then forced into marriage with a man but she flees to find her beloved, her brother. They live out their hidden love for a few months and are unfortunately beheaded with swords on the Place de l'Hôtel de Ville in Paris.

This tragic story inspired director Valérie Donzelli, who adapted the story into a film that was nominated for the official selection of the Cannes Film Festival in 2015. 🙂

Very good trip to you, my dear readers!
