Throughout the summer season, RTL journalists travel across the country to meet the French. For a week, Gautier Delhon-Bugard takes you to discover the Cotentin.

#1 Has Normandy become the new El Dorado for tourists?

In search of a refuge far from the oppressive heat of the south of France, more and more tourists are opting for the Cotentin, notably Cherbourg-en-Cotentin. On the program, meeting with visitors, hikers, tourism professionals including Mathilde Brossier, executive director of the Cotentin Tourist Office.

#2 In the footsteps of the Barfleur mussel

One of the delicious local specialties has disappeared from restaurant menus and plates: mussels Barfleur, which had been fished for decades in the waters of the Cotentin. With the near extinction of wild mussels along their coasts, fishermen have been forced to find alternative solutions.

#3 Motorhomes are invading the region

The Cotentin is growing in popularity with campervans, which sometimes leads to management challenges. Gautier Delhon-Bugard followed a group of camper van drivers to the Cape of the Hague, where they borrowed the GR223, customs officers' trail, popular with Cotentin hikers.

#4 Aboard the amphibious boat to visit Tatihou Island

When the tide is low, you can access one of the most unusual places in Cotentin by amphibious boat, theTatihou Island. The island is a small piece of land of 29 hectares, it is home to the Vauban tower and an ornithological reserve protecting more than one hundred and fifty migratory species. Tatihou Island has unfortunately been facing the threat of rising water levels for several years.

#5 The daily life of SNSM sea rescuers

In order to pay tribute to these men and women who brave the tumultuous seas to come to the aid of sailors in distress, Gautier Delhon-Bugard went to the sea rescuers of the SNSM of Goury.

#6 Guided tour of the Cité de la Mer, a cultural hotspot in the region

Head to the Cité de la Mer, a Normandy tourist site dedicated to the adventure of man and the sea.

#7 Direction Barfleur, a small, unusual fishing port

Barfleur, classified among the Most Beautiful Villages in France. Commonly called “the Pearl of Val de Saire”, the village of Barfleur takes its name from Norse, the language of the Vikings.
