Thatched roof renovation work

Dated 18th centurynd century, the Coudrairie water mill operated until 1935. It was then abandoned for 64 years until its purchase by the Community of Communes of the canton of Saint-Pierre-Eglise, which renamed it Marie Ravenel water mill in homage to the miller poet who lived there for 27 years.

This mill is today managed by the Cotentin Urban Community and has been part of the SPL Développement Touristique du Cotentin since 2018.

The work lasted 7 weeks and was carried out by:

> The collection of poems by Marie Ravenel – 1rd edition

It was at the age of 15 that she began to indulge in the pleasures of writing, starting with fables. 7 years later she turned to poetry to never leave this passion. She published her first collection at the age of 41 and received a very good reception in the world of poetry as well as in bookstores. 8 years later, she released a second collection, increased by 50 poems, to end up publishing her complete works in 1890, at the age of 79. All this makes her a talented and recognized poet in the world of poetry. Proof of this is the friendly relationship she maintains with Monsieur De Lamartine, a great French poet of the time.

Marie Ravenel wrote more than 200 poems! Despite a significant domestic burden, Marie Ravenel, when evening came, “found her Muse”.
The collective “Words in the air!” » has set itself the mission of making this work visible and easy to access: around twenty poems or extracts have been grouped together to form a collection of selected pieces.

Participated in the selection of texts and poems for this 1rd edition: Catherine Clot-Fouchet, Sybill Dajon, Claudine Dorey, Dominique Estève, Michèle Husson-Rifflet, Catherine Lambinet and Annie Sotty. Other editions will follow.

> The windmills game booklet

At the end of June, the shops of the Tourist Information Offices are equipped with the first edition of a collection “Les P’tits Curieux du Cotentin”, a fun game booklet for children aged 6 to 12 to discover our territory; in the spotlight for this first version the Moulins du Cotentin: Marie Ravenel's water mill, the Cotentin windmill of Fierville-les-Mines and the Grosville water mill.

> The Cider of the Mill

Now in 2022, the mill has its own cider made from apples from the orchard: “Les Bulles du Moulin”

The apples were entrusted to the Cidrerie de la Chesnaie in Yvetot-Bocage to transform them into cider.

>Flour from the mill

The flour from the mill is already on sale in the mill shop. In fact, 1 ton of wheat each year is crushed and transformed into flour, bran, groats, etc. The origin of wheat is from Cotentin.
