Ocean racing is a kayaking discipline that is practiced solo or double.

The single kayaks measure 6m and weigh around 15kg and are very unstable. The steering of the kayak is done with the feet which direct a fin at the rear of the boat.

The start of the races is given on the water, all the rowers stationary in their kayaks. After the signal, they set off on a route of approximately 20km. The first ones will compete for an hour to complete this course!

The particularity of this event is that it always takes place with the wind at your back, we can also say downwind. Kayakers are therefore pushed by the wind and waves, but watch out for imbalances!

At these European Championships several competition sites are possible depending on the wind direction. The choice of route will be made 48 hours before the event.
