The main commercial port of the Manche department, Cherbourg is a ferry port in its western part and general merchandise port in its eastern part. Cherbourg allows access to all vessels up to 14m draft, open 24 hours a day, 24 days a week. Three regular lines connect the port to England (Poole and Portsmouth with Brittany ferries) and to Ireland (Rosslare with Irish ferries and Celtic link) by ferries.
The eastern part deals with bulk calls (coal, salt, rock, scrap metal, gravel, sand, etc.) as well as wind turbine calls and heavy packages.
