Presentation
Accessible without tidal constraints and depending on the draft, this small port inserted in the harbor of Cherbourg belongs to the public domain. Its management is entrusted to the association “Les Gabiers des Flamands”.
The port was built in the 1850s to be used for the construction of the harbor fortifications and to preserve the mature timber previously submerged in the Tourlaville pond. To do this, the port and the pond are connected by a canal.
The basin is made of Fermanville granite masonry stones, adorning a body of work of raw rubble masoned with lime mortar.
