Since 1944, the bodies of German and American soldiers killed in combat have been buried in this cemetery, near Valognes.
But in 1945-1946, the American authorities transferred the American bodies to the cemetery of Saint-Laurent-sur-Mer (Calvados) while in 1957, the German authorities gathered here the bodies initially buried in other small temporary cemeteries or in isolated graves.
