Barfleur was one of the most important ports on the Channel in the Middle Ages.
With its adorable granite houses and its location at the end of the Cotentin peninsula, this picturesque little port has attracted many artists, painters and writers.
Paul Signac was one of them. He lived here from 1932 to 1935, in a house opposite the Saint-Nicolas church, today marked by a plaque.
The artist was a sea enthusiast and owned several yachts. He created, in watercolor, an important series of ports in France, including the port of Barfleur.
