Overview

Located in the writer's family home (1808-1889), this literary museum presents rich collections of manuscripts and autograph letters, letters, first editions, portraits, photographs and personal memories of the author of Les Diaboliques.
On the occasion of the bicentenary of Barbey's birth in 2008, a new scenography was put in place occupying the entire residence.
The upper floor, which is dedicated to the writer, has preserved its fireplaces, its paving and its paneling. Visitors can also watch a film about the author, made by Franck Samson of FR3 in 2008. On the ground floor, visitors are immersed in the permanent exhibition “Barbey d’Aurevilly contre son temps”, and explore with him the political and intellectual world of the 2011th century. The BARBEY D'AUREVILLY museum is part of the “Musées de France” network and received the “Maison des illustres” label in XNUMX.
