Presentation

The port of Cherbourg played a decisive role in the advance of Allied troops in Europe.
Within the museum installed in Fort du Roule, an interactive screen lets you discover the panorama of the city and the harbor of Cherbourg, visible from Fort du Roule, and their strategic issues.
You will thus understand the determining role played by this first port liberated during the Liberation period from summer 1944 to winter 1945.
Throughout the visit, the collections illustrate the daily life of civilians and soldiers during the Second World War: photos of the occupied and liberated city, propaganda posters, allied leaflets, etc.
Located at the top of the Roule mountain, you will also enjoy an exceptional view.
New for 2024: a space dedicated to the history of the Roule mountain from Antiquity to the Second World War to better understand this strategic place in the heart of the port city.
