Impossible to cross two footbridges on the GR223 in Vasteville: deviation to follow

Due to repair work on two footbridges, on either side of Val ès Cochard on the GR223, passage is impossible and temporarily prohibited by municipal decree. The work, carried out by Cotentin through the company Ecoréca, is planned from Tuesday July 25 to Thursday July 27, 2023.

A diversion is set up for the GR223 with stakes marked out with white and red paint, to be followed passing through the dunes.

Bicycles are invited to follow the route suggested on the map in the appendix, via the Croix Frimot.

A map displayed at the entrances and in front of the footbridges provides information on the deviations to follow.

The crossing ban is made temporarily for your safety. The work will allow safe passage in the long term.

You can take advantage of the marked deviation of the GR to discover another part of the La Hague dunes, the Biville dunes.

Some figures (source: SyMEL (Mixed Union of Littoral Spaces)).

  • 600 hectares, 8 kilometers from north to south and 2 kilometers from east to west
  • A highlight: 114m at Calvaire des dunes (Biville)
  • 90 seas temporary flooded in winter and spring sheltering 11 species of amphibians
  • Un maritime pine afforestation of 30 hectares
  • Greater  350 species of plants recorded

The site is protected by the Coastal Conservatory and managed by SYMEL.

The dunes were formed during successive glaciations and climate warming, which caused sea levels to fall and rise. The sand pushed by the sea gradually accumulated on the rock hills, until it covered them.

On these perched dunes, superb panoramas allow you to observe the Vauville cove, the dunes, the wetlands and the pines.
