CHERBOURG-EN-COTENTIN

During his visit in August 1858, Emperor Napoleon III decided to build a maritime hospital in Cherbourg. In neoclassical style, it was inaugurated in 1869 on a 16 ha site which also houses a botanical garden and a chapel with a capacity of 450 places. The hospital ceased its activities in 2002. Its premises now house the Caen/Cherbourg School of Arts and Media, businesses, administrations, student housing, a shared garden, etc.
